Children's Church Curriculum Reviews - DiscipleTown!

DiscipleTownYou may or may not be familiar with DiscipleTown, but it is written by Karl Bastian - the Kidologist! While an entire quarter wasn't available for review, they do allow you to download one sample lesson from each
four week series - which allows you the opportunity to get a really good "feel" for this curriculum! It is a Large Group/Small Group Children's Church curriculum and is well worth taking a look at for your Children's Church. Plus, if you are a member of Kidology, you save $5 off the price - and if you are not a member, but join during the month of July, you will receive three months of the annual membership for free (use the code summer13 at - making it an even more amazing savings! Allow me to share with you some information about DiscipleTown curriculum!
Strengths -
  • Biblically Sound
  • Entirely reproducible
  • Children are intentionally engaged throughout the lesson with activities and questions/discussions - the children are actively engaged in the lessons by being able to help teach the lessons
  • Scope is built around the idea of "teaching practical 'Disciple Skills' which every follower of Jesus Christ must develop in order to grow and live victoriously."
  • Parent materials are included so parents are able to continue the learning at home throughout the week - "DiscipleTown Table Talkers challenges families to set aside three times a week to discuss the principles kids are learning at DiscipleTown"
  • Colorful graphics
  • Excellent, engaging videos, object lessons and crafts throughout the lessons capture children's attention and help them remember, understand and live God's Word!
  • Unique and intentional "multi-cultural emphasis to help children learn Jesus loves and saves children all over the world, from every race and nation!"
Would like to see -
  • Weekly - "live-it" activities to help children take what they learn out the doors of the church and live it in their everyday lives every day
  • quarterly service projects to "Put Feet to Their Faith"
  • Resources for Preschool age children
  • An opportunity for volunteers to pray Scripture for each child to bless them
I really like DiscipleTown and appreciate how it is written with the goal of intentionally engaging children so they are able to remember, understand and live God's Word for genuinely changed lives. They say, "DiscipleTown exists to make disciples. Each unit teaches a discipleship skill essential to a child's walk with Jesus. DiscipleTown will help your kids become dynamic disciples who: develop a reservoir of KNOWLEDGE based on a Biblical worldview, displays Christlike CHARACTER in every area of life and demonstrates faithful CONDUCT which honors God and heps people."
