One of my favorite parts of Vacation Bible School is the focus it gives to involving children in serving others through a mission project. This year several publishers have chosen projects that involve children in raising money to pay for translating the Bible and lessons into other languages such as the oneverse project through the seed company/Wycliffe, the Wild Waves/one million children project with Gospel Light and RBP's Operation Translation where Bible lessons are being translated into several languages. LifeWay is teaming with Baptist Global Response to involve children in a project gathering school supplies for children around the world - Kits for Kids and Concordia has children raising money for the Lutheran Malaria Initiative. Group once again has an Operation Kid2Kid project for their VBS resources where children will decorate backpacks and send a bookmark and Spanish New Testament to children in Latin America and Cokesbury will have children involved in gathering food for local food banks. Standard and Answers in Genesis encourage you to select a project you can participate in that benefits your community. No matter what mission project you involve your kids in, they are sure to have their eyes opened to real needs in the world around them and how they can make a difference by "Putting Feet to Their Faith"!
I'd like to encourage you to involve children in a mission project for VBS and then select a project they can be involved in at least one additional time in the year. Help your children see "Putting Feet to Their Faith" is not just something they do once a year in VBS, but rather is something they can do all year long! Take a moment to check our Ministry Focus for this month - WorldHelp causelife and consider how you can help your children "Put Feet to Their Faith" by helping provide clean, safe water for people in another part of the world.
We do NO SEW blankets as our missions project a couple of times each year....easy and fun, they are a HUGE hit at children's hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Email for info: bobbyswife4@yahoo.com
