Over this past weekend I posted some information about the incredible need in Haiti and how Samaritan's Purse is making a real, tangible and measurable difference in the lives of many, many thousands of Haitians. Today I'm going to share two specific ideas for how you can intentionally engage your children - and families - by "Putting Feet to Their Faith" and involving them in two projects with Samaritan's Purse.
The first would be to plan a fund-raiser with the goal of raising money to send Samaritan's Purse for use wherever needed in Haiti - and there are many, many places/projects that need money in Haiti. Have a baked goods sale and donate the proceeds to Haiti. Involve the children in making placemats with Scripture verses, and the words "Haiti" and "Pray" in as many stylized and colorful ways they can think of. Laminate and sell them with the proceeds going to Haiti. Involve families and ask each family - or several families to sponsor a table at a "rice many ways" dinner. Allow families to decorate their table and bring the portions of the dinner - make a sign up list for the food. Collect donations to send to Haiti. Consider holding a White Elephant Silent Auction at your dinner as well! There are endless ideas for fund-raisers . . . hold several over the next couple months and then send the money you collect to Samaritan's Purse for use in Haiti.
The second project involves Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan's Purse has the goal of collection 250,000 shoe boxes for the children in Haiti. You could challenge each child in your ministry - or each family - to fill one shoe box for a child in Haiti and add $6 for each box to cover "The Greatest Journey Discipleship Program". Children in Haiti will receive the boxes of gifts and learn how to know and walk with Jesus! The real hope for Haiti rests with it's children. If they are reached for Jesus and then discipled, as they become adults it will change the entire country for generations! Children easily understand and identify with other children and the Operation Christmas Child project is a very "hands-on" opportunity for them to "Put Feet to Their Faith" and learn to give to and serve others!
Consider involving your entire church in both projects over the coming months and help your children, families and entire church "Put Feet to Their Faith" by teaming up with Samaritan's Purse to make a real difference in the lives of the people in Haiti!
