Top Three Vacation Bible School Countdown for 2011 . . . Tuesday, January 11th - "Pandamania" by Group Publishing!

Welcome to the seventh day of my Top Ten Countdown for Vacation Bible School 2011 - this week marks my Top Five VBS Countdown for 2011! I'll announce my Top Pick for VBS 2011 on January 14th, but today we are looking at "Pandamania!" from Group Publishing - it tied for 3rd place in my review! This year Group invites you to take your children to a bamboo forest in China where they will discover how Psalm 139 comes to life and learn that God is "wild" about them!

Scope and Sequence -

  1. God Made You! - God creates the world - Genesis 1
  2. God Listens to You! - Elijah confronts the prophets of Baal - I Kings 18:16-39
  3. God Watches Over You! - Jonah tries to escape from God - Jonah 1-3
  4. God Loves You No Matter What! - Jesus dies and comes back - Luke 22:31-24:12
  5. God Gives Good Gifts! - God gives Hannah a baby - I Samuel 1:1-2:11
Pandamania Starter Kit: Where God Is Wild about You (Pandamania; Where God Is Wild about You Vbs)Theme - Children will learn how to grow stronger in their faith as they discover God is "wild" about them!

Strong Points -

  1. Solid Bible Lessons - strong salvation emphasis and application for children who already know Jesus!
  2. As always, Group's lessons are creative and engaging - they are solidly grounded in God's Word and intentionally designed to engage children in the teaching of the lessons!
  3. I love the "i-Openers" - although I'd like to see them priced more affordably - and the "God Sightings" live-it activities for each day!
  4. I love the information provided for volunteers on the daily bible point and why it matters!
  5. Love the daily Buddy intros!
  6. Excellent info on decorating - Group will help you transform your church into a bamboo forest!
  7. Mission project - Operation Kid-2-Kid - kits for kids- children will make "Jesus Loves me Backpacks" and put a bookmark and Spanish New Testament in them for children in Latin America
  8. Mostly complete director's information - excellent volunteer training
  9. Good information on involving children with special needs
  10. Craft kits are affordable!
  11. All stations reinforce and teach the daily Bible points
Would Like to See -

  1. I really like the daily Buddy intros - it seems this could have been expanded into a science station - dump Chadder and replace it with a station that actively engages children- such as a science station
  2. I'd like to see information in the Director's book about how to screen volunteers, and develop a goal for your VBS
  3. I'd like to see ideas to involve children in serving their own communities - maybe worked into a science station that replaces Chadder
  4. I liked some of the songs this year, but the dvd needs to show elementary age children, a wider ethnic diversity and more boys. If you'd like to hear a sample of the music - click here.
  5. I'd like to see a basic kit for churches on a tight budget
I appreciate the commitment to teaching God's Word to children in an engaging and active way that Group is well known for! If your primary goal for VBS is to help children understand God's Word can be understood and lived, be sure to take a serious look at "Pandamania!". Since the setting is a bamboo forest, this VBS should work well at an outdoor venue such as a back-yard-Bible-club or VBS in the park. Group VBS utilizes NLT Bible.  Tremendously well done Group - thank-you for sending "Pandamania!" for my review.
