Put Feet to Their Faith with a Project to Help Children Value Life

I recently read the following on a friend's facebook page . . . "More than 24 years ago, Pam and her husband Bob were serving as missionaries to the Philippines and praying for a fifth child. Pam contracted amoebic dysentery, an infection of the intestine caused by a parasite found in contaminated food or drink. She went into a coma and was treated with strong antibiotics before they discovered she was pregnant.

Doctors urged her to abort the baby for her own safety and told her the medicines had caused irreversible damage to her baby. She refused the abortion and cited her Christian faith as the reason for her hope her son would be born without the devastating disabilities physicians predicted. Pam said the doctors didn't think of the baby as a life, they thought of the baby as a mass of fetal tissue.

While pregnant, Pam nearly lost their baby four times but refused to consider abortion. She recalled making a pledge to God with her husband: If you will give us a son, we’ll name him Timothy and we’ll make him a preacher.

Pam ultimately spent the last two months of her pregnancy in bed and eventually gave birth to a healthy baby boy August 14, 1987. Pam’s youngest son is indeed a preacher. He preaches in prisons, makes hospital visits, and serves with his father’s ministry in the Philippines. He also plays football. Pam’s son is Tim Tebow."

Thankfully, Tim's parents looked at life with a vision which placed value on their unborn son. We do not know the future of any child, but whether they become someone "famous" or go on to be people who raise their children to know and love God, we need to place on all life the value God gives it.

Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 lIf I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.
It is high; I cannot attain it."  (Psalm 139 ESV)

We can help the children in our ministries have this same vision for life. Check with the local pregnancy resource center in your community and ask them which resources they are in need of, then involve the children in your ministry in collecting those items to donate so young, unwed mothers are able to find the resources they need for their babies. Equip your kids so they move beyond having a head knowledge of the truth unborn babies are people who have the right to life, to having a heart to help those in need by personally getting involved in collecting diapers, bottles, formula and other things young moms need for their babies.
