This new Veggie DVD, Robin Good & His Not So Merry Men, releases on March 3rd and is one children and families in your ministry are sure to love . . . and you will love the way it gives you so many opportunities to talk with them about important lessons!It all begins with the short - Lenny and the Lost Birthday, in which Lenny thinks everyone has forgotten his birthday. He doesn't know about Leap Year and how it pushed his birthday back one day and ends up feeling like he is not special to anyone. "Of all of my days, mom, this was the worst. My family, my teacher my friends all agree. There's nothing at all that's special about me." His mom sings, "But this is the day the Lord has made. You're special to me and you'll be okay. Tomorrow will dawn and I'll love you still. Things will get better, I promise they will! When your days been a mess and you feel it intensely, don't forget Whose you are and Who loves you immensely! God made you His child and you're treasured as such. You're precious, you're treasured, He loves you so much! And this is the day the Lord has made. You're special to Him, you'll be okay! Tomorrow will dawn and He'll love you still! Things will get better, I promise they will!"
While we may not "misplace" our birthdays, we all have bad days from time to time. This little short story gives you the opportunity to talk with children about how they feel when they have a bad day . . . and share with them how you feel when you have a bad day, too! Just as Junior's mom encouraged him with the truth God made him His child and he's treasured as such, you can share this incredible truth with the children in your ministry! They are special to God and He will love them each day and each tomorrow! (And be sure to remember this yourself of this truth when you have a bad day, too!)

As with many Veggie stories, Robin Good is a Veggie version of Robin Hood and has all the humor and fun we have come to know and love with Veggie stories! Robin "fundraises" from the rich to help the poor, but with the economy as it is, this day, "times are as tough as granny's shoe leather!" Robin Good makes the point even when times are tough and people are hurting, "there's no hurt too big for God!" When the ham Robin and his merry men bought for a needy family is "purloined" by Prince John, his men get discouraged and angry and decide to turn to robbery - "Rob from the rich and give to the poor." Robin tries to tell them stealing is wrong, but they don't listen and leave Robin, which leaves him wondering if the hurt and burden of losing his friends is a hurt which is too big for God. Robin learns to give his burdens to God by, telling "God your heart is hurting. Tell Him you're feeling blue. You can't make it yourself and you need His help to comfort and see you through. He'll care for you. He'll care for you. He loves you and He's always there for you. His burden is light His promise is true. God will take care of you. God will take care of you!"
One of my favorite things about VeggieTales is not only do they tell a fun story with a point, but they provide opportunities for families to live what they learn from these stories by helping others! Talk with the children in your ministry about what they can do to help others and then select a project out of the World Vision gift catalog, work together to raise money and send the money they raise to help others!
