Put Feet to Their Faith - Samaritan's Purse in South Sudan

If you read this blog, you are most likely very much like me . . . you live in a country where there is peace, where you have a home, you have food to eat and clean water to drink. There are places around the world where this is not the case . . . South Sudan is one of these places. Samaritan's Purse has been working on Sudan since 1993 helping people and they provide this information . . . 

• Escalating tensions between Sudan and South Sudan have the two nations on the verge of war less than a year after South Sudan celebrated its independence.  The two sides fought a decades-long civil war that killed about 2 million people before a 2005 peace deal that eventually led to South Sudan’s independence last year. Tensions have steadily intensified since then over disputed border areas and oil revenue, as well as Sudan’s genocidal campaign against its own people in the states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile, leading to a series of deadly conflicts that has displaced thousands of civilians.
• April 16, 2012  Sudanese warplanes bombed a market and an oil field in South Sudan, killing at least two people after Sudanese ground forces reportedly crossed into South Sudan with tanks and artillery.
• Samaritan's Purse has provided food, shelter, clean water, and medical aid to tens of thousands. Their programs also include agricultural assistance, education, and vocational training, in addition to church construction and evangelism. 
• Since last summer, Samaritan's Purse has provided emergency relief for people fleeing what is being called ethnic cleansing and genocide. The Arab government of Sudan has been accused of targeting the people in South Kordofan and Blue Nile because of the color of their skin, because some are Christian, and because they back a rebel movement
• Samaritan's Purse is responding to the crisis by helping to meet critical needs at refugee camps in Yida and Doro, across the border in South Sudan. The camps are home to over 120,000 people who fled the fighting in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile. We assist in providing food, water, medical care, sanitation, shelters, and other support.
• During his trip to the region earlier in April, Franklin Graham visited the Nuba Mountains in Southern Kordofan and saw firsthand the suffering caused by the atrocities inflicted by the government of Sudan against it’s own people. He said, “We found scores of people, mostly women and children, hiding in caves in the rugged hills. Their living conditions are deplorable. They are eating whatever they can find to survive—insects, grub worms, tree bark, roots—and everyone has dysentery.”

You can help the children and families in South Sudan by involving the children in your ministry in projects to raise money for Samaritan's Purse as they serve in South Sudan. In addition to raising money to help, as Samaritan's Purse says, "Your voice matters. Contact the White House,your senators, and your representatives. Express your outrage over what is happening. Tell them to call on Sudan President Omar al-Bashir to halt the campaign of violence, and to establish a humanitarian corridor in the Nuba Mountains so that aid can be delivered. Urge your family, your friends, and your church members to get involved. Please keep the Sudanese people in your prayers. Now more than ever, people in Sudan and South Sudan need to know the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ."
