Put Feet to Their Faith - Pilots for Christ

The ministries I highlight each month with my "Put Feet to Their Faith" service challenge, are typically ministries you are familiar with; such as Samaritan's Purse, WorldHelp, Angel Tree, etc. But there are also many, many ministries you may not be familiar with which are ministries you could involve the children and families in your church in as well. One such ministry is Pilots for Christ.

So, what is Pilots for Christ? Their mission statement says, "As members of Pilots for Christ, International (PCI), we acknowledge Jesus Christ to be both true God and true man. We accept Him as our personal Savior, and Savior of the world. In gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of flight, we endeavor to use our interest in aviation to promote His Gospel throughout the international aviation community, in particular, and the world in general, through service.

We will use only honest and ethical means in serving those in need. We provide our services free of charge to any person in need, regardless of their race, religion, or ethnic identity. Our areas of service are:
  • Counsel and instruct youth groups about flying
  • Fly and drive missions of mercy
    • Transport patients, relatives, and supplies
    • Transport ministers to their mission stations
    • Transport anyone with an appropriate travel need
  • Witness at air shows, airports, and in our everyday lives
  • Foster Christian fellowship at meetings, at or near airports
  • Distribute tracts and Bibles free of charge at air shows and airports
  • Providing ground transportation where necessary and appropriate

To further these ends, chapters are recognized by the International Headquarters to function in specific geographical locations. Each chapter self-monitors, so that flight standards equal or exceed FAA requirements. Members are obliged to conform to the above principles. The true strength lies in our chapters. One person working alone can do many things in His name, but a chapter working together can accomplish miracles in His name. PCI has many chapters, and new ones are forming. If you have a chapter in your area, get active in it. If you don't have a chapter in your area, we will be more than happy to help you start one. It isn't hard."

Pilots for Christ helps people in need and in so doing they fulfill Jesus' own words in Matthew 25, "44 They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’" Can you imagine what it would be like if you, or someone you love, was sick and needed to get to a hospital far away, but didn't have a way to do so? This is one of the ways Pilots for Christ serves, "the least of these". They provide, free of charge, transportation for people in need.

So, this month for the "Put Feet to Their Faith" ministry focus, please involve the children and families in your church with Pilots for Christ. Over the coming month I'll share some accounts of how Pilots for Christ serves those in need and I'll give you a couple ideas of ways you can involve the children and families in your church in coming alongside Pilots for Christ in serving, "the least of these".

Let's begin with a prayer challenge! Pilots for Christ will be helping a lady named, Marsha R. Marsha will be traveling from Toledo to Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minn for a stem cell replacement on August 1st.  At the Mayo Clinic, they will take Marsha's own stem cells and then re-introduce them into her to try and stop a rare blood cancer.  This condition also causes a degeneration of her brain activity which will be irreversible as time goes by.  Marsha will be in Minnesota for 6 weeks and then we will bring her back to her home in Toledo. She needs prayer for strength, faith and healing in Christ.  She is dealing with depression and fear. Please involve the children and families in your church in a prayer challenge for Marsha. Please pray for the following -
  • Pray she will find comfort and strength in Jesus as she travels to Minnesota for this treatment.
  • Pray the doctors will have wisdom and be able to help Marsha.
  • Pray she will recover quickly and the rare blood cancer will be eliminated.
  • Pray this treatment is successful and the brain degeneration is stopped.
  • Pray for Pilots for Christ so they will know how to minister to Marsha and share Jesus and His love with her.
Easy wood craftsIf you would like to involve the children and families in a project to help raise money for Pilots for Christ so they are able to offer their services free of charge to people in need, consider this idea! Have the children make airplane magnets which they could sell, then donate the money they raise to Pilots for Christ! (Check this link for info on making a simple, inexpensive and fun airplane magnet!)

Please check the Pilots for Christ website and see how you can involve the children and families in your church in serving people in need and sharing the love of Jesus with them!
