A Faith of Their Own - Review & Give-Away!

When I think of children - both in my church and my own grandsons - there is nothing more important to me than to see them choose to love God so they can know and walk with Him all their lives. One of the reasons I write my other blog, grandma's cookie jar - is to help grandmas - and grandpas and moms and dads - know how to pass on a heritage of faith. This faith has to be a child's own. It isn't enough for it to be my faith, a parent's or teacher's faith - it has to be a child's own faith and walk with God, or as I've been writing, they will grow up and forget God. 

So, when I was recently invited to review the book; A Faith of Their Own: An Experience Guide for Parents & Preteens, I was interested to see what the authors wrote which will help children grow in their own faith. The book says it is an, "Experience Guide for Parents and Preteens", and it is exactly this! It, "helps parents and preteens grow and experience God in everyday life."

Favorite Features -

• Provides 52 weeks of opportunities for parents and preteens to sit down and think through God's Word, experience an activity, pray, think and talk through how it all applies and journal what they have learned
• I really like how the experience activities mostly use things families have in their homes
• The debrief questions do a good job of helping everyone tie it all together
• Focus is not just on "facts", but on taking God's Word, understanding it, experiencing it and using it to know God more

A Faith of Their Own is written to not only help preteens come to know Who God Is for themselves, but to give parents and teens a year where they can do this together and grow closer to each other at the same time. I would have used this book with my children if it had been available back then; I will definitely pass it on to my son and daughter-in-law to use with their boys when they are older.
