Let There Be Light - I'm Giving One Away!

There certainly is no shortage of picture books about creation, but a new book from
Desmond Tutu, illustrated by Nancy Tillman, brings a wonder, delight and awe to this account which shares how; "In the very beginning, God's love bubbled over when there was nothing else - no trees, no birds, no animals, no sky, no sea - only darkness. Out of this love, God spoke. 'Let there be light.'" And this retelling of the creation account only gets more beautiful from there!

Let There Be Light
Author - Desmond Tutu
Illustrator - Nancy Tillman
Publisher - Zonderkidz
Ages - 4-7

Favorite Features -
  • I love the way Desmond Tutu crafted his words to focus on how creation was an expression; a "voicing" of how God's love for us, "bubbled over"!
  • The illustrations are amazing!
I love the "joyous" way Desmond Tutu shares the Creation account in this lovely picture book! I love the animals Nancy Tillman chose to illustrate; Let There Be Light is a delightful book about the creation of the world; one which will give families such a wonderful view of the love God showed when He created this world we live in!

The final page wraps it all up saying; "God looked at everything that He had made and clapped His hands together in delight. 'Isn't it wonderful!' And on the seventh day, God laughed, and rested, and enjoyed His glorious creation." When you read Let There Be Light to the children in your ministry, have them tell what their favorite animals, birds and flowers are then grab some paper and have fun illustrating your own books to "delight" in God's amazing creation!

I'm so happy to say, not only did Zonderkidz send me a copy of Let There Be Light for me to give away, but they are making an additional copy available for me to give away! (USA only) If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be included in the drawing for Let There Be Light - which will be on March 17, 2014, please comment below to share what your favorite animal, bird and flower are - my favorite animal is the Basset Hound because we have had several and they are such funny, wonderful dogs! My favorite bird is a duck - I just love how they quack and waddle and my favorite flower is the Lily of the Valley!

In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed About the Children's Department by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. Plus, if you "share" this post, you'll receive another entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win Let There Be Light and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away! Thank you for reading About the Children's Department and for sharing it with the people you know!

  1. My favorite animal is Gracie, our dog. She brings us joy with her antics everyday. My favorite bird is the chickadee. I enjoy seeing them at our bird feeders. They are just like kids who can't sit still! My favorite flower is the purple coneflower. Coneflowers are at home in both gardens and fields.
