I was recently invited to review a book by Ray Johnston - The Hope Quotient and I have to say, if you only read on book this year, definitely make it this one! While it is filled with "quotes" which stand out, which grabbed my attention, which I want to remember, the following is one which applies to children's ministry today like never before (and to every aspect of our lives as well) . . . "Do you know what's wrong with the church these days? Nobody believes miracles can happen anymore. We need to get back to the days where we actually think it's possible that miracles can happen. The church is going to be dead a lifeless until we start believing that impossible things are possible." (Glen Cole)

Okay, I'll list a few, but really, I love everything about this book!

• Written with humor - this is not a dry, boring book! You will not want to put it down!
• Shares seven factors which raise our hope quotient
• Shares the power of the question; "What can this become?" and the Five benefits to asking this question. Ray says; "Everything changes when we ask the question, 'Am I able to see things not as they are right now, but in terms of what they can become?' 'I will make you become fishers of men,' Jesus said, and by following through on His word, He changed, is changing, and will change the world. Forever." This is hope! 
• Gives four steps to discovering your Spiritual Gifts and says; "The best feeling in the world comes from using our gifts for God's purposes. The biggest thrill in the universe is to be used by God for something He wants to accomplish. God created you for service. He called you to service. He will reward you for service. When we use our gifts, we build joy and grace into our lives." I ABSOLUTELY agree with this!!!!
• The chapter on, "Replace Burnout with Balance" is excellent . . . I especially LOVE question #7 - "Am I Putting First Things First?" If you get nothing else out of this book - don't worry, you absolutely WILL, this one question is essential for raising your Hope Quotient! Put first things first - don't forget what is truly important!!!!
• Helps us understand how to unleash hope in our marriages, kids, careers, church, community and the world
• I love - and am challenged by - the Five Characteristics of a Hope-Fueled Church!

I could go on and on about why I love The Hope Quotient, but I'd rather you sit down and read it for yourself and discover all these "whys" for yourself!
