It may seem obvious why it matters for us to be sure we do what we say we will do; clearly God's Word tells us to be people who do what we say we will do. But beyond obeying God, it matters because when we do not do what we say we will do, it is extremely likely we will cause hurt to others.
Few of us will intentionally fail to do what we say we will do, but unintentionally we may find we do this. When this happens, we must be certain to do all we can to make things right; going on with the attitude of we didn't mean to not keep our word, or things have changed - while they may be true, do not excuse us from keeping our word.
Do not give Satan a foothold in your ministry by not keeping your word. Be someone who others can depend upon to do what they say they will do; and who if something happens to change things, is careful to do all they can to make things right.
