Special Review & Give-Away - The Story of King Jesus!

I was recently invited to review a new book for children - The Story of King Jesus by writing my opinion of the book. They are also making another available for me to give away, so first, my review . . .

The Story of King Jesus
Author - Ben Irwin
Illustrator - Nick Lee
Publisher - David C Cook
Ages - 4-7

Favorite Features -
  • Tells the "story" from the Garden to Heaven
  • Includes the reader - listener - to the "story"
  • Wonderful illustrations
  • Love the "note to the parents"
David C Cook says; "People of God pass their faith to the next generation by telling the story of how God rescues His children. This richly illustrated book continues to tell that story—from the creation of the world to Jesus’s victory over death. Designed for children ages 4 to 8, The Story of King Jesus is the gospel told in a single story—a story meant to be read from start to finish in one sitting. The Story of King Jesus will captivate your child’s imagination, nurture their spiritual curiosity, and draw them into the full Bible story as they embark on a lifetime of following Jesus the King."

I really loved how The Story of King Jesus explains "sin" . . . "After this, everyone tried to do things their own way, from the very first people all the way to you and me. God's good world was broken. But God never stopped loving His people. He promised to make the world right and good again so we could live with Him and He could be our King." Throughout the "story" the author explains sin as not wanting, "God telling them how to live. They wanted to do things their own way." I love how the "story" goes on to say; "But Jesus didn't just rise from the dead; He defeated death so it wouldn't have power over us any longer. Jesus made it possible for us to be God's people again. He made it possible for us to live the way God wants. And, the challenge - "Our King gave us a job to do: love each other with all we've got. That's how we show God's love to everyone else."

Especially in this day and age this is a message not just for children; it is for us all! The Story of King Jesus is a book we can read to our children/grandchildren and know it will generate conversations about Who Jesus is, why He came, what sin is and how we can be forgiven so we can, "be God's people again and live the way God wants by showing His love to everyone else with all we have"! The Story of King Jesus is not your "typical" Bible storybook about Jesus. This book shows clearly what sin is, how we all have sinned and how we all need Jesus to do what He did. It will generate important conversations and is a great book to read to your Sunday school class, children, grandchildren or any group of children who you could read a book to!

I'm so glad David C Cook sent me The Story of King Jesus to review; I'm looking forward to reading it to my grandsons - and I'm very happy they are making another available for me to give away! If you are over 18 years old and you'd like to be in the drawing for The Story of King Jesus (USA only), which will be on April 11, 2015,  please comment below to let me know who you will share this book with - I'm definitely reading it to my grandsons!
