Where Do You Invest Most of Your Time, & Why?

We are thinking about some important questions when it comes to our children's ministries for the next few days; today we are going to look at where we invest most of our time and why we spend it on those things.

Those who serve in Children's Ministry do have many things to think about . . . 

• Do we have enough volunteers?
• What curriculum should we use?
• Do we have enough volunteers?
• How are we going to train the volunteers we have?
• Do we have enough volunteers?
• Are we doing all we can to ensure our children's ministry is as safe as it can be?
• Oh, yes, did I mention, do we have enough volunteers? If not, where will we find more volunteers?

The list goes on and on. No matter how long our "to-do list", we are able to see what is most important to us by the things which take most of our time, work and attention. 

While this is true, another thing is also true; it is easy for us to become distracted and lose focus of what is really most important. It is oh, so easy for us to get "caught up" in trying to have a children's ministry which has all the "bells and whistles", one which has "action" and "fun", but in the process we lose sight of what really matters - helping children know and walk with Jesus. 

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for having children's ministries which are fun and are places where children want to be, but helping children learn how to discover what is in God's Word for themselves is far more important than the environment, tech and music. If we have "fun", but have children leaving our ministries "Biblically illiterate", then we have "missed the boat".

And, if we are satisfied with spending lots of time, energy and resources (both in people and money) for just a few hours out of a child's week, and do not also focus on engaging parents and grandparents, so they are able to build on what happens at church, then we are also "missing the boat".

So, as you think about where you invest most of your time and why, think about if you have become distracted or have lost focus. Consider how much of your time is spent on something which will only take a couple hours of a child's week and how much of your time you spend on things which will can impact the day-in-day-out every day living of the children in your ministries.
