As we think about Grandparenting Ministry, it is important to think about what we want to see happen in this ministry with the grandparents in our church. Clearly, we want to engage them; help them see and understand how they still have a very important job to do. Their "job" is not over when their own children are grown. These years are not the time to just retire and recreate. There are very important things for them to do in passing on a heritage of faith!Yes, we want to, and need to engage the grandparents in our churches, but we also have to equip them. We need to provide resources they can use which will help them feel able to pass on a heritage of faith. I've talked with many grandparents to tell me they want to pass on a heritage of faith, but they do not know how to do so; they do not know what to do.
This is part of the reason I wrote Science, the Bible & Fun! With this resource grandparents will find 52 weeks of activities they can use with their grandchildren to engage them in learning how to love, know and walk with Jesus! Each week has a science project for grandparents to enjoy with their grandchildren, a craft or cooking/baking recipe and time for games. Then there is a portion which focuses on walking families through the Psalms, learning to pray the Psalms back to God and learning about a real Bible person who chose to love, know and walk with God. Families will learn about one Bible person a month, so they have the opportunity to really, "get to know" the Bible person!
The digital curriculum is flexible - you could use it once a week, or make a week's lesson last two, three or four weeks as you use just a part of it each week or you could use it however best fits your family. The point is, Science, the Bible & Fun! is easy to use and a fun way for grandparents to enjoy time with their grandchildren while passing on a heritage of faith!
