VBS 2016 - Cow-a-bunga Farm from Regular Baptist Press - I'm Giving a Starter Kit Away!

Today, as we begin the second week of my 2016 VBS reviews, we are looking at the first of my Top Five VBS resources - Cow-a-bunga Farm from Regular Baptist Press which came in at #5!

RBP did a great job with the content and substance of this VBS resource - if  you are not familiar with their materials and have never taken a close look at them in the past, this year is a great year to make a change and consider if Cow-a-bunga Farm is a good "fit" for your Children's Ministry!

Cow-a-bunga Farm

Regular Baptist Press

  1. God has a plan: Trust & Obey - Genesis 37 - God wants us to show we trust Him by obeying.
  2. God is with you: Serve Faithfully - Genesis 39 & 40 - God is with us even when our circumstances are hard.
  3. God is in Control: Remain True to God - Genesis 41 & 42 - God is in control & working out His plan in His time
  4. God convicts of sin: Ask for God's Forgiveness - Genesis 42 & 43 - God convicts us of our sins and stands ready to forgive us.
  5. God is Good: Trust His Plan - Genesis 43-45; 50 - God's plan is trustworthy, because He is good all the time.
Setting –Children will experience life on the farm - with animals, tractors and growing crops.
Message – "Children will learn about God's faithfulness, as revealed in the life of Joseph, and be encouraged to grow in godliness and trust God's plan!"
Focus – Evangelism, Bible content and Application
Strengths –
  • As I would expect, Cow-a-bunga Farm has a strong evangelistic emphasis, solid Bible content, excellent mission project and great information on how to reach VBS families after VBS is over!
  • I'm happy to see creative engagement of the children during the Bible adventure portion of each day’s lesson again this year!
  • I’m very happy to see teachers and children reading from the Bible during the Bible lessons for the Middler and Junior ages! (I'd really like to see teachers opening their Bibles during the Bible events for younger children.)
  • The activities connect well and do a good job of reinforcing the daily point!
  • Strong, intentional focus on providing children the opportunity to make the decision to get saved in each day’s lesson.
  • I LOVE the reproducible certificates you can give children when you catch them being "good"! Great idea!
  • I LOVE the science stations included with each day’s lesson!
  • I still would like to see a bit more “pep” and possibly more original music – but you have the option to use music with a piano track or instrumental track again.
  • Great craft book with an abundance of affordable ideas
  • Very complete director’s book – especially appreciate the info on engaging children with special needs and the thorough way it covers screening volunteers and safety!
Would like to see –
  • Ideas to help children serve in their own communities
  • There are far, far, far too many gadgets and items in this VBS which were made in China. I have significant concerns about child/slave labor for anything made in China and would like to see RBP source these items from other places.
  • Along this line - the gummy worms are made in China. (Possibly the gummy carrots as well - they were not in the starter kit, so I can not say for sure, but you may want to check this before purchasing any.) I will not feed a dog food/treats from China, so I certainly will not feed my grandchildren - or any other child - candy from China. Be careful about this. I hope RBP will not get things - especially things children eat - from China in the future.
  • Zipper tags or something children could take home each day to remind them of the event they learned and what they are going to do to live it
  • Resources for churches which do not use the classroom model – Bible lessons in a book for a Bible lesson station and a station with object lessons/science projects/activities – this would provide more options and make the materials easier for churches to use.
  • More excitement in the opening and closing – this is a great place for object lessons/science projects and gives you a big way to once again make your point before children leave for the day.
  • I’d like to see a more intentional and stronger focus on specific things for children to go and “do” before they return the next day to live what they learned.
Regular Baptist Press says, "Cow-a-bunga Farm challenges children to respond to God's wonderful love and to accept His free gift of salvation. Children are also challenged to obediently follow God's leading: to bravely trust His promises, His power and His presence and to obey Him, even in hard times."

As I would expect from Regular Baptist Press, the Bible content is solid and I’m very happy to once again see an intentional focus on helping children who are already Christians learn how to live what they learn in their everyday lives! Overall, Cow-a-bunga Farm is a great option for a VBS with a strong evangelism focus and solid Bible content or for a mission trip resource! Cow-a-bunga Farm is absolutely worth taking a serious look at it to see if it is a good “fit” for your ministry!

Order Your Kit TodayI am happy to say, Regular Baptist Press is making available one of their Starter kits for me to give away (USA only)! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be included in the drawing for the kit - which will be on February 1, 2015, please comment below to let me know how you trust and/or serve God; as I begin to serve with the Legacy Coalition, I'm definitely trusting God and of course serving Him as well!

In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed About the Children's Department by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. Plus, if you "share" this post, you'll receive another entry (please let me know if you share).
