Sometimes it is easy - too easy - to focus on the "things" we need to do and lose sight of the thing we really need to be focused on . . . knowing and walking with Jesus. Check this link for a personalized Scripture prayer from Psalm 86 for us to focus on which encourages us to depend on and trust God.
So . . . what are some of the things which we need to depend on and trust God for? Well, we each have to answer this in regards to our personal lives as we are all facing and dealing with our own unique situations, but when it comes to Children's Ministry, let's think about depending on and trusting God for the volunteers we need. When I talk with those who serve in Children's Ministry they often tell me their greatest need is for volunteers. Small churches, medium/average size churches, large churches and mega-churches alike spend a great deal of their time on recruiting. I personally love recruiting! I know, when I say this people often think I must be crazy, but it is true! I believe nobody cares more about whether we have the volunteers we need than God does. I believe He has placed the people in our churches who we need to do each of the things the church needs to do . . . some of these people know who they are - and aren't we so thankful for then!!!! Some of these people are "hidden treasure" as they do not yet know they are people who God placed in our ministries to serve in the Children's Ministry. They do not yet know the joy which awaits them as they get involved, so I look at recruiting as going on a treasure hunt!
As you focus on recruiting, definitely approach it with an attitude of enthusiasm as you are look for the "treasure" of volunteers God has placed in your church, but depend on God to help you identify these volunteers and trust Him to work on their hearts, so they will be willing to get involved! Reflect the joy which comes from serving in Children's Ministry and know as you pray, "make my heart glad and I will pray to You all day and serve You!", God will answer this prayer - for you, for the volunteers you have and for the ones you will have!
