Back-to-School Prayer

When we look at the world around us, it can be easy to feel afraid for the children in our ministries. We may wonder how they will grow up in a world which is increasingly anti-God and hold on to their faith. How do they keep a Biblical world-view when from their youngest ages they are taught and told they can do whatever they want, believe whatever they want, and see themselves however they want? How do they hold on to their faith in this world?

Yes, this can be a frightening thought, but it is important - even essential - for us to remember, as much as we love the children in our ministries, God loves them even more! And, God's Word stands against the evil in this world, because it is Truth!

So, for me, I am intentional about doing two things. First of all, I am sure we are teaching children God's Word is True, God loves them, He knew what He was doing when He created them to be boys/girls, and He has an amazing plan for them, so they can trust and love Him back! I teach and tell them the truth - again and again.

Secondly, I pray for them. This may sound like the "same old thing", but it isn't. God hears, listens to, pays attention to and answers our prayers! Praying is asking God to do what I can not do . . . I can not assure the children in my ministry will make wise choices, but God can move in their hearts, open their eyes and draw them to Him. There is true power in prayer, so I pray!
I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This week as children are beginning a new school year, please join me in praying the following based on Psalm 139:16 and Ephesians 1:4-6 for the children in your ministry -
"Thank You God for creating the children in our ministry! Please help them know before their bodies were formed, You saw them, created them to be the amazing, unique people they are and You knew what You were doing when You created them! Please help them know before the world was created, You chose them to live with You and be Your adopted children! Thank You for Your love for us; I love You, too!" (Excerpt from Deeper In 4 Grandparents & Parents, Too! Praying the Scriptures for the Children You Love - Psalms Edition)
