Ask the Question - Are the Parents Equipped?

When we think about the questions we need to ask on a regular basis about our Children's Ministry, there are several important questions to keep in mind. One of them is; are the parents equipped? This question, and it's answer, matters for the following reasons . . .
  • If the children are going to grow up and be adults who know, love and walk with God, they need to be taught at home by their parents - it is not enough for them to just learn about God at church.
  • Families where they think and talk about their walk with God, and how to love and know Him more, are families where the children are more likely to grow to be adults who love, know and walk with God.
  • It is the job of the parents to pass their faith to their children - it is the job of the church to build on what the parents are doing and to equip and encourage parents to fulfill their God-given role with their children.
Yes, we absolutely want the children in our ministries to learn God's Word at church, but it is essential for the parents to be the people who are most engaged with passing faith to their children. As you regularly evaluate what you are doing in your Children's Ministry, be sure to ask how you are equipping the parents - it matters.
