2017 VBS - Operation Arctic from Answers in Genesis

This week, on Friday, I'm going to be announcing my Top Pick for VBS 2017 - today we are looking at Operation Arctic from Answers in Genesis - it is a resource well worth taking a close look at to see if it is a good "fit" for your ministry.

Answers in Genesis

  1. Book of Books - Selected Passages in the Bible - The Bible is the coolest book on the planet, unique in so many ways.
  2. Incredible Impact - Acts 9 -  - Saul's life is transformed - The Bible's message has had an incredible impact on earth.
  3. Bedrock Base - Matthew 7 - The wise man build his house on the Rock - The Bible is the bedrock foundation to build on love on.
  4. Letter of Love - Selected verses - The Gospel is a message with love - The Bible has a thrilling theme running throughout its pages.
  5. Exciting to Explore - Luke 10 - Mary loes to soal in God's Words - The Bible is exciting to explore - let's learn it, love it and live it.
Setting – The Arctic
Message – "At Operation Arctic children will explore the coolest Book on the planet and discover how we can know for sure the Bible is God’s written word to us!"
Focus – Evangelism, Content

Strengths –
  • As I would expect, Operation Arctic has a strong emphasis on teaching the infallibility of the Bible and salvation through Jesus!
  • LOVE the focus and emphasis put upon finding a Prayer Coordinator for the VBS - excellent!
  • I'm very happy to see children opening and reading the Bible during the Bible event.
  • I'm also very happy to see AIG use the terminology, "Bible account" instead of, "Bible story"
  • I love the “Go and Do” portion of each lesson where children have specific things to go and do to live what they learned!
  • The director’s info is very complete and full of extra information, tips and trivia - love the 20 Tips for the VBS Director!
  • I LOVE the science projects included in the craft time - children will love these!
  • I love the Top Ten Tips for a VBS Prayer Ministry! Excellent!
  • Love the idea for “Praying for you postcards”!
  • The Contest portion of the closing is fun – sure to generate enthusiasm!
  • Music is available again this year with a Contemporary or Traditional sound giving churches options
  • The "Terrific Trivia Tidbits" are great fun!
  • I'm very happy to see two kit options, so churches on a limited budget are able to make this work for them, too!
  • I'm happy to see more engagement of the children in the lessons!
  • I love the Creature Feature portion of the Closing - and the new handshake will be a lot of fun!
Would like to see –
  • Ideas to help children serve in their own communities.
  • A Bible lesson book for multi-ages – this would make things easier for churches where they do not use a classroom teaching model for the Bible lessons. If you use a learning station format, I'd use the Primary Teacher's Book for the lessons and activities.
Answers in Genesis says; “Grab your parka and snow boots! With this VBS 2017 curriculum, we’re headed deep into the stunning Arctic Circle filled with treasure and thrilling to explore! • Has had an Incredible Impact upon our world!
  • Is the Bedrock Base of our lives!
  • Is a Letter of Love in which God tells us how we can become His children!

Operation Arctic is an excellent resource for VBS - one which will impact and reach children and families for Jesus; and help them understand the truth about God's Word. You may also want to look at Operation Arctic as a resource you could use for mid-week ministry . . . Answers in Genesis offers their materials past the end of the summer, so you would still be able to find the components you need.

  1. Thank you for your very thorough review. I wanted to get started looking at programs for next summer and trust AiG material and I really like the idea of decorating for a winter theme in summer! I will definitely keep this in mind.
