I posted this on my blog for grandmas (and grandpas and parents, too) and want to share it with those of you who are involved in Children's Ministry. Please take the message to heart and commit to share it with the grandparents and parents in your ministry. Better yet, commit to equip them by getting a digital license to use the Life on the Goldilocks Planet series with the families in your church ($1 per family - check the details at this link.)
When we share memories with our grandchildren, we are helping them connect with the past. This is why it matters for us to tell them the ways God has worked in the lives of their family who came before them - as you do this, they will see God is real and is still working in the lives of real people in their own family. This matters.
But, we also want to be grandmas (and grandpas/parents) who make memories with the ones we love today as well. When we do this, we are able to focus upon handing down confident faith - and this is the "key" to their future - what you are doing when you hand down confident faith, is connecting them, and the truth about God to their future.
Josh McDowell says, "Belief is knowing what you believe. Conviction is knowing why you believe it." We must make these important connections with the ones we love to help them develop a confident conviction because they know "why" they believe what they believe. Barna says - "In fact, the percentage of young-adult dropouts has increased from 59 to 64 percent. Nearly two-thirds of U.S. 18–29-year-olds who grew up in church tell Barna they have withdrawn from church involvement as an adult after having been active as a child or teen." If we don't want the ones we love to be part of this statistic, we must be focused upon building memories which allow us to hand down a confident conviction.
When we invest our time to build memories as we hand down confident faith, we are giving our grandchildren - and grown children - a "key" to their future which will help them have a confident conviction. Why wouldn't we want to do this? I know I've said this a few times, but there is an excellent tool which will help you give the ones you love the key to having a confident conviction - the "Life on the Goldilocks Planet" curriculum/book series. Get it to use with the ones you love. Get it to give as a gift to the ones you love. I've been able to get the price down, making it more affordable. Consider using and giving it to build memories and hand down a confident conviction!
