As Covid Comes to an End - Equip Parents & Grandparents

As states move past mask orders and churches have people without masks in them, you may find parents and grandparents make the choice to stay home until their children are able to be vaccinated. I know I will continue with at-home church with my grandsons as even though their poppa and I are fully vaccinated, they are not, and I do not want to see them get sick with covid.

So, what might you do to keep in touch and encourage the children in your ministry to grow in their faith? Consider equipping parents and grandparents so they are able to hand down confident faith.

Yes, we need to teach children what we believe, but we also must teach them "why" they are able to believe it. If we do not teach the "whys", then we run a huge risk of seeing the children we love turn away from their faith as they grow older. (Barna's studies show Gen Z is turning away from faith at double the rate of previous generations.)

So, equip the parents and grandparents! And, make time each week to remind children of the "whys" - why they are able to believe God is real and trust Him with confidence. The Life on the Goldilocks Planet series is an idea resource to help you do exactly this. Each week take about five minutes of class time to announce the animal children will learn about. Then have parents/grandparents learn about the animals with the children they love at home during the week - and do the activity together. 

Plus, during the week connect with families through email, video, and/or facebook to see what everyone is doing. Share photos of families working on the activities and encourage them to share what they thought was the most interesting or surprising thing they learned about the animal for the week.

Most importantly, as children learn about the design in the creatures which fill our world, they will develop a confident faith in knowing God is the Designer and He designed everything - including them - to be "just right"!
